Toys and Learning started in 2007, in Norfolk, as an online toy shop with a simple aim: sell toys that help children learn.
We stocked all sorts back then — anything with a genuine educational angle. But it was our own customers, or rather their children, who taught us something we hadn't expected. The toys that got picked up again and again, the ones that lasted years rather than weeks, weren't the ones labelled "educational." They were the ones a child actually wanted to play with — the horse being led out to the paddock, the dinosaur squaring up to another across the carpet, the story that ran on long after the box was opened.
That's when we found our focus.
Why Schleich and Papo
We now specialise in Schleich and Papo — two of the world's best-known figurine and playset makers, and two ranges we'd have chosen for our own children regardless of what we sold for a living.
Schleich builds whole play worlds — Horse Club, Wild Life, Dinosaurs, Farm World - designed so a child can build a story with what's in their hands, not just look at it on a shelf. Papo brings a sculptor's eye to detail and scale, the kind of figure that holds up to close inspection on a collector's shelf as well as a game on the bedroom floor.
Sticking to two ranges, rather than stocking everything, means we know them properly: which sets work together, which figures suit a four-year-old's rough-and-tumble play versus a ten-year-old's growing collection, and which piece is worth waiting for rather than substituting.
What that means for you
